Where Words Build Bridges – Rebuilding Peace

Since August 2024, two special guests have enriched everyday school life at the formation: a student from Israel and a student from Palestine.

13. April 2025, 22:23 13.

Her stay is part of the Rebuilding Peace project, which is initiated by Maximilien Marxer and jointly implemented by AFS Switzerland, Aha –Tipps & Information for young people, ICC and the Formatio-Privatschule.

Last week was all about intercultural encounter and creative exchange – a highlight of the project. This was made possible by a diverse workshop offer from Aha Liechtenstein. At the Workshop Word to Action by Cathy Wittmeyer, the students creatively dealt with the questions: What does home mean? What does peace mean? The poem entitled «In our Utopia», presented in different languages, impressively illustrated how language can connect and what a safe environment the young people are allowed to grow up in here.

The exchange was also lived culinarily: In the Kontrast youth club in Triesen, the young people cooked dishes together, which were brought in by the guest students – under the motto Sharing is Caring. In addition to classics such as hummus and falafel, bulgur salad, a traditional Palestinian chicken dish and chocolate balls were also on the menu. The finale was the memory game of the Traffic Signs for Justice, the exhibition of which was not a guest in Liechtenstein until September 2024.

Another highlight was the podcast workshop on Wednesday. From brainstorming to planning to recording, the young people learned how to create their own contribution. The topic of the podcast was implemented with a lot of creativity. The project week concluded with a critical examination of human rights: What do they have to do with my everyday life? Who protects them? And what can I do if they are injured? The workshop was conducted by the Association for Human Rights and Amnesty International.

The fact that two young people from an area in Liechtenstein that has been marked by conflict for decades can live and learn together is already a great success of the project. The fact that they are also setting an example for peace and understanding is even greater. (in.)
