SPEND A WRITING WEEK IN THE LAP OF QUIET ALPINE LUXURY IN LIECHTENTSTEIN TO CONTEMPLATE COOLING THE PLANET.

Background

The climate crisis is too often seen as a problem for governments and businesses to solve.  While students are drawing attention to the problem and placing blame accurately on the shoulders of their parents’ generations, they can use the arts and science to drive community-based solutions as well.

Mission

Word to action is a collaborative forum for creative & fun expression of climate change anxiety to persuade the public to take real and realistic actions.  We work to motivate climate action through language with an exceptional student-involved spoken word poetry performance.  We use student-led-research tools to gauge our influence.

Project Summary

A group of six international poets will gather for a week-long (Monday – Sunday) writing retreat in Liechtenstein.  Here they will write poems around the topic of climate change and engage local students and/or poets in workshop.  On the final Sunday of the retreat, the group will perform a spoken word event at Literaturhaus LI and involve the audience in a climate change commitment / survey.  The data collected will be analyzed to determine the net reduction in carbon emissions over a 3-6 month period.  Success of this first event, will lead to more events and more data and more reductions.
